Task 1 History of games

Game platform Development Timeline

Arcade gaming

Pong 1972
Although it wasn't the first, Atari's Pong was the first video game to get the ball rolling -- or bouncing, as it were. Humble even by contemporary standards, Pong was an effort to introduce a video game so intuitive that even a child (or inebriated bar patron) could grasp it instantly.

It was in many ways a reaction to the first commercial arcade video game, Computer Space, from 1971, an overly ambitious effort based on Spacewar!, a pioneering mainframe computer-based space combat simulation from the 1960s developed by and for engineers (which will be covered in an upcoming article, "Spacewar! (1962): The Best Waste of Time in the History of the Universe").

Unfortunately, Computer Space proved too complex for the first wave of would-be gamers to handle. Whereas Computer Space had boldly gone where no coin-op had gone before, Pong merely asked players to "avoid missing ball for high score." The banal but intuitive game play made it the right game at the right time.

In 1972, most Americans were just getting used to color television; the idea of playing an actual game on a TV screen was revolutionary. What Pong really achieved, then, was demonstrating to the masses that computers were far more than esoteric tools for engineers and rocket scientists. It was the TV game of the future -- a future they were now part of.

Mobile gaming
Mobile gaming is not one of the most popular but people do play games on the mobile device the famous game that they had was snake. Snake was a popular game in the 1990s people played it all the time. In 1994 there was a game called Tetris. Three years later Nokia made a game called snake which was very popular

WAP soon gave way to services such as J2ME, BREW and Nokia's own Series 40 and Series 60 operating systems. These platforms enabled significantly more complex programmes to be distributed to handsets, catching the attention of major gaming studios. Around the turn of the millennium, colour handsets flooded the market, replete with Java and flash support and more robust online capabilities. Studios such as Sega, Namco, THQ, EA and Gameloft leaped upon this untapped resource, developing exclusive content for mobile phone users. Early colour titles - such as Tetris, Pac-man and various other puzzlers - still looked primitive compared to mainstream handheld consoles of the day, but bigger and better things were just around the corner. Sega's Super Monkey Ball was the first major console to mobile conversion, and the game's popularity paved the way for many other high-profile franchises to make the jump to cell phone. Gameloft scaled down Ubisoft's Splinter Cell, EA delivered tailored editions of its popular sports series and Sega rendered some of its Genesis catalogue in Java. Although things were moving forward at an incredible rate, mobile phone gaming was still addled by hardware constraints. Numeric keypads were never intended as gaming interfaces, and Java-based offerings had limited appeal to anyone outside of the casual demographic.

In 2003, Nokia attempted to bridge the gap between mobile phones and gaming devices with the launch of the N-Gage. Based on the Nokia Series 60 platform, the device was launched as an attempt to lure gamers away from the Game Boy Advance. Despite being considerably more powerful and offering communication and online support, the system was a commercial failure. Support from major franchises including Tomb Raider, Call Of Duty and Sonic The Hedgehog didn't change the fact that the console's buttons were poorly suited for gaming and its design clunky and unappealing. However, the N-Gage did attract a cult following and is something of a collector's item today. Moreover, the online service that Nokia launched to back the device was ahead of its time. Many of its services were integrated into the firm's Ovi Store in the ensuing years.

History of TV gaming
Year: 1978

Not everyone could afford a home console back in 1978 so Florida TV syndicator Marvin Kempner came up with the idea of a segment where people could call in and play video games on the Intellivision video game console over the phone. A caller would dial-in and by using a phrase (in New York City it was "Pix") they would be able to shoot down alien spaceships or shoot basketballs into a hoop. TV POWWW was syndicated all over the United States and picked up over seas until 1982.

Their is a company who do have games on their tv which is SKY they had TV gaming on there boxes that customers had so the customers could play their games on the settings where people were able to play games all the time if they were getting bored.
